I think you get the idea I am pretty passionate about this place we call Santorini. The other morning whilst chilling at my friend Gabi’s house, she asked me if I would be interested in joining her to help clean up the beach. I was more than excited at the idea and we set off to buy some gloves and heavy duty rubbish bags.
We chose Caldera Beach on the way to Akrotiri. We started cleaning at around 1.30pm and did about 2 hours of solid work to collect rubbish among other odd items we found along the way which included;
- Pair of Boxer Briefs
- A Hair Comb
- A Tyre
- A Hypodermic Needle
We were most alarmed about the needle but disposed of it properly (by placing it inside a plastic bottle and putting the lid on).
The most amount of material we found by far was plastic. It was very sad to see how much of it there was, as it is a non-biodegradable item and is very dangerous to the environment. However after two hours we got most of the beach clean, and plan on doing something like this again soon. It felt really good to give back to the planet.
